Some fun messy Projects

I found these cute little bottles at the Dollar store!
I gave them each 2, to fill at their leisure!
These two are making nature bottles.
They also make potions! Exploding potion and Disappearing potion to name a few.

The little nature bottles turned out adorable, and were a ton or fun!
Spencer spent his afternoon tying to put the pieces of a few broken knives
together to make a working knife...the process continues.
Brady came home the other night with a beautiful crystal snowflake
that they had made at Cubs.  We decided to try some on our own!
First we made snowflakes out of pipe cleaners
Then we hung them over night in bucket of hot water and Borax
This is what we found the next morning...it was like a treasure hunt!
Story of the World this week we attempted to make some ink for our feather pen out
of walnut shells. First we cracked the nuts and gathered the shells together.
We boiled them in water, then strained the shells out. We were rather disappointed with
the ink, but the process was rather a fun experiment!
For Nature study this week we studied Insects!
Each one of the kids picked an insect to study, then took turns sharing
what they had learned with the family!

Gotta love the snail!!

Its been a while so I uploaded a lot of pictures!

The kids did a lovely job of their cave drawings for Story Of The World this week.
They enjoyed crumpling up their papers to make them look oldish.
We studies bunnies for our nature study this week. Luckily for us we have a bunny
and observing our little bunny and trying to draw him was quite amusing!

This book was a gift from one of my favourite people. Its what we are using to
study nature this year. Its a beautiful book.
Its been challenging to keep the little ones busy while I work with the older children.
Gluing beans onto paper was a big hit!
 Rock climbing at the Gym!
We decided to make some long ago crafts for our History class!

Hieroglyphs, I believe ones says "Spencer is the best" and another
"Brady is cool"
Our pressed flowers from our nature walk turned out quite nice. We taped them in
our nature journals and looked up plant and flower names.

Im trying to get the kids excited about this reading tree. I got the idea from a friend.
Each time you read a new book, you write your name and the title of the book
on a leaf. It so cute!
I think Im the only one thats in love with this Charlie Brown tree! Its going to be
full of Jane Austen rereads if they don't get cracking!
The other night while the boys were at Scouts, we sat around by the fire while
Emma read to us from her book by candle light. It was such a romantic scene
I just had to get a picture.
I decided this year that I wanted to take one morning each week to improve our baking skills.  Its always slightly crazy,  but here they are working on a batch or
chocolate chip cookies together, yeah!
 Such a beautiful October day!
We took advantage of the weather and enjoyed a hike around beaver flats with some friends!
So much fun
This bunch happened on a patch of mud.
They look happy now, but they were literally crying in the freezing cold river while they scrubbed
the 2 inch mud cakes out of their hair!

Eli"s new book. He's learning how to read this year! We sit down together
and learn a lesson, then he gets a little gummy candy, he loves it!

A few Geo board designs!
Every fall our family helps the Food Bank by volunteering to drop off
donation bags, and then pick them up again a few days later. Its like a
treasure hunt. We all enjoy helping out!
The girls learned how to make corn cob dolls. They were so cute.
The
AUTUMN

The kids helped me rake leaves the other day, then we had to jump in it!
I got some pretty good action shots! I literally took almost 100 of them,  the jumps
never ended, they just got more intense...
which led to me taking more pictures at the jumps!
They actually really flew, those brave boys, I was quite impressed!

Nature Study

This morning we went on a little hike to collect little bits of Nature
We found moss, bark, berries, mushrooms, pinecones, a hornets nest, a feather, and other goodies
for our nature box.
We also found flowers, leaves, and plants to press.
The kids were super excited to draw some of their finds!
 Eli drawing his mushroom
"And he wandered away and away, with
Nature the dear old Nurse,
Who sang to him night and day, the rhymes of the universe.
And when the way seemed long, and his
heart began to fail,
She sang a more wonderful song, or told
a more wonderful tale."
"Mom when we get really rich, can we buy a house with a swimming pool
and then fill that swimming pool up with flour?"

First day of School

Cutest kids ever!
It took me a few shots before I realized that Spencer had Eli's
Pre-school chalk board. We had a good laugh about it.
